Frequently asked
Questions, answered as honestly as we can
If your question is not here, the contact form is one short scroll away. We add to this list as new questions arrive.
01Who runs TimeScribe?
A small editorial team based in India, supported by a network of contributors. We are independent and not affiliated with any political party, religious institution, or media group.
02How do you make money?
Reader donations, almost entirely. No advertising, no sponsored posts, no paid placement. If you read us regularly, please consider supporting us — it is the single thing that lets us stay independent.
03Is the Hindi version a machine translation of the English?
No. We commission and edit the Hindi independently. Sometimes the Hindi piece is written first and the English version follows. The two versions sometimes diverge slightly in metaphor or in what feels worth quoting; that is intentional.
04How do you decide what to publish?
We ask three questions. Is the subject important? Can we add something that has not already been said better elsewhere? And is the writing good enough to deserve the reader’s time? If all three are yes, the piece moves toward an edit.
05Can I pitch a piece?
Yes, please do. Send a short paragraph — not a draft — explaining the subject, why it belongs in this magazine, and one or two writers or works you would put on the same shelf. We reply within a week.
06Can I republish or translate your work?
For non-commercial uses with proper attribution, almost always yes — write to us first so we can flag any image-rights you need to honour. For commercial reuse, please ask. See the Copyright page for the formal version.
07How do you handle corrections?
On the same page, with a dated note at the bottom of the article. We do not silently rewrite. Substantive corrections also appear on our Twitter feed.
08Will you delete a piece if I ask?
For factual errors, we correct rather than delete. For genuine right-to-be-forgotten requests, especially around personal information, write to us with the URL and the specific concern. We take such requests seriously.
09Do you have an RSS feed?
Yes — a separate feed for each language. You can find both linked in the footer, and most modern readers will auto-discover them from the site.
10Are you hiring?
When we are, the openings appear on our Careers page. When we are not, the page says so plainly. You are welcome to write to us in either case — we keep a small file of writers and translators we hope to work with.
